Message from the President and Conference Chair

The field of cognitive-behavioral therapy has grown in breadth and depth, and while its applications in the field of mental heath are perhaps best known, its contributions to health and health care also immense.  The 2019 conference of the CACBT- ACTCC will highlight both domains with the theme of “The Role of CBT in Health and Health Promotion”.  The two- day conference will begin with a set of half-day workshops related to CBT in the health domain.  Experts will present on the following topics (2 in French; 2 in English):

  • Mindfulness-Based Interventions in Healthcare
  • Crise cardiaque ou de panique ? Reconnaitre, évaluer et traiter les troubles anxieux chez les clients souffrant de maladies cardiovasculaires
  • Overcoming Resistance to Change: How Motivational Communication Approaches Can Help
  • Optimiser l’efficacité de la thérapie cognitive-comportementale de l’insomnie en contexte de comorbidité médicale

The day of workshops will be followed by a day of presentations, symposia and posters submitted by the membership.  What a great opportunity to present, and to network with colleagues interested in the most recent updates in the field!

The conference will be held at the Pierre Dansereau Science Pavillion of the Université de Québec à Montréal (UQAM) in the heart of downtown Montreal.  This venue, located adjacent to Arts and Entertainment district of Montreal, provides a modern, convenient and attractive place to meet existing friends, and those you have yet to know!  Early May is also a wonderful time to visit Montréal, as the weather if often fair, but the city is still not as busy as in the heat of summer. We welcome you!  If you have any questions, and to submit and register, please see information that follows.

Kim Lavoie (UQAM) and Keith Dobson (U Calgary), 2019 Conference co-chairs.
