The CACBT’s Mission and Goals

About CACBT

Established in 2010, the Canadian Association of Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CACBT) is a national organization dedicated to advancing the practice and science of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) in Canada. Originally incorporated under the Canada Corporations Act, CACBT transitioned to the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act (NFP Act) in 2014.

Our organization was founded by a group of Canadian mental health professionals committed to the theory and practice of CBT. Recognizing the vital role of cognitive and behavioural therapies in treating a wide range of mental health conditions, CACBT focuses on training, advocacy, accreditation, and the advancement of CBT knowledge.

Our mission is to uphold and implement national standards for CBT practice, foster collaboration among professionals in all helping fields, expand access to CBT knowledge and training, advance scientific research in CBT, and educate the Canadian public about its benefits.

Specific goals of CACBT include:

Advocating

We are committed to educating the public about CBT and advocating on issues related to both CBT and our Association.

Certification

We aim to establish, uphold, and implement standards for qualified CBT practitioners, offering certification opportunities to members who meet these criteria.

Training

We aim to share information about CBT and offer training opportunities through conferences, courses, and workshops. Additionally, we will provide relevant articles, updates, and news via our website, blog, and social media channels.

Advancing Knowledge

We aim to advance scientific research in CBT and related fields while providing a platform for professionals to engage in discussions on topics relevant to both the science and practice of CBT across all helping professions.
