CACBT is pleased to offer Full Members the option to become nominated as a Fellow.

What is a CACBT Fellow?

Fellowship status is the highest honour bestowed by CACBT upon Full Members in good standing from any professional background. It recognizes those who have made a truly outstanding contribution to the advancement of CBT-based theory, assessment, and/or treatment, as well as to advocacy for and training/consultation/supervision in CBT within the Canadian context. Typically, one to two Fellows are recognized each year. 

Fellow Nominations

Deadline: March 21, 2025

  • Fellowship status is the highest honour bestowed by CACBT-ACTCC upon Full Members in good standing from any professional background. It recognizes those who have made a truly outstanding contribution to the advancement of CBT-based theory, assessment, and/or treatment, as well as to advocacy for and training/consultation/supervision in CBT within the Canadian context. Typically, one to two Fellows are recognized each year.

  • Fellowship nominators and nominees must be CACBT-ACTCC members in good standing at the time of the nomination (note that current members of the CACBT-ACTCC Board are ineligible). Nominees must have made outstanding contributions in both of the following evaluation categories:

    1. Advancement of CBT-based theory, Assessment, and/or Treatment

    2. Advocacy for and Training/Consultation/Supervision in CBT

    Outstanding” refers to an exceptional level of achievement or contribution surpassing that of peers with similar backgrounds and/or demonstrates an unusually strong impact through their work.

  • Examples of Outstanding Contributions in both Evaluation Categories

    1.    Outstanding contributions to the advancement of CBT theory, assessment, and treatment, some examples include:

    • Establishing innovative CBT-based assessment or treatment services

    • Developing research-informed cultural adaptations of assessment and intervention tools

    • Developing new CBT theories

    • Providing pro bono or low-cost CBT clinical services

    • Developing/providing CBT services for underserved groups/communities

    • Contributing to CBT related research, such as conducting impactful research on CBT theories and/or therapy, including:

      • Research on CBT theories of mental health difficulties

      • Research on factors in the success of CBT-based interventions (e.g., active ingredients in exposure, behaviour experiments, Socratic dialogue; tests of CBT models for development and persistence of mental health difficulties)

      • Randomized control trials of CBT therapy

      • Program evaluation of CBT service delivery

      • Holding research grants for CBT-relevant research

    • Supporting CBT-relevant research

      • Serving on grant review committees as expert in CBT

      • Serving on review panels for grant applications, in capacity as expert in CBT

      • Serving on CBT-relevant Editorial Boards

      • Service on CBT-relevant conference committees

      • Research consultation on CBT relevant projects

    • Other

    2.     Outstanding contributions to advocacy for and training/consultation/supervision in CBT training and supervision in CBT, some examples include:

    • Demonstrating an unusually high degree of commitment to and effectiveness in CBT clinical and/or research consultation/supervision and training, for example:

      • Training and/or supervision related awards

      • Student course evaluations in CBT relevant courses

      • Student/trainee testimonials

      • Indices of trainee success

    • Leading role in creating significant CBT training opportunities

    • Offering pro bono or low-cost CBT services

    • Improving accessibility of CBT services

    • Leading role in diversity, equity and inclusion as related to CBT practice or training

    • Developing and delivering CBT relevant workshops for professionals

    • Engaging in outreach and knowledge translation, such as writing opinion pieces, blogs, op-eds, or giving free public talks

    • Contributing to public policy and services relevant to CBT

    • Advocating for CBT services at local, provincial, and/or federal government levels

    • Volunteering service in CBT organizations

    • Participating in working/advisory groups to advance CBT

    • Other

    A case for outstanding performance must be made in both evaluation categories 1 and 2. However, not every sub-criterion listed under each category needs to be met. For example, those who primarily provide clinical service and training may not have made outstanding contributions to research but are eligible if their contributions in other areas are outstanding, and vice versa. A Fellow can be awarded for those who have made a highly impactful contribution in one main area or who have demonstrated cumulative excellence across multiple areas.

  • Nominating a Fellow

    • Nomination deadline: March 21, 2025

    • The nominee must be a Full Member in good standing at the time of the nomination

    • The nominee must be nominated by two CACBT-ACTCC Full Members in good standing at the time of the nomination

    • One of the two nominators will take responsibility for submitting the nomination

    Fellow Nomination Submission Requirements

    1. Two (or more) letters from CACBT-ACTCC members in good standing, making a strong case that the nominee has made outstanding contributions in both evaluation categories.

    2. A brief statement from the nominee indicating their interest in being considered for the status of CACBT-ACTCC Fellow.

    3. The nominee’s curriculum vitae (CV).

  • The Nominations Review Committee, comprising the CACBT-ACTCC Past President and three CACBT-ACTCC members in good standing, will review all submissions and evaluate each nominee based on the evidence of outstanding contributions in both evaluation categories. Results will be communicated to each nominee prior to the CACBT-ACTCC Annual General Meeting.

    Fellowship announcements will be made at the May 2025 CACBT-ACTCC Annual General Meeting (AGM), which will be held in a hybrid format (both in-person and online). Those granted Fellow status are highly encouraged to attend the AGM in real-time, either in person or online.
